Meet the Village of Angola Candidates

The candidates are listed here in the order they will appear on the ballot on Tuesday, March 15, 2005.

For Mayor

James R. Carlson

James R. Carlson is running for a second term as mayor of the Village of Angola. “As mayor, I have worked to continue the efforts that have led to the changes that we see on Main Street today. I have worked to keep the budget line in place as we bring the Village back to life,” said Carlson. “Much has been done, but we can’t stop now.” Carlson has worked with members of the Evans Town Board to coordinate efforts to bring improvements in the Village and Town and to share in taxpayer savings when possible. Carlson, a lifelong Village resident, lives with his wife and three children.

Howard (Hub) Frawley

Howard (Hub) Frawley is running for mayor of the Village of Angola. Frawley is a life-long resident of the Village and a local business owner for 30 years. A former Village of Angola Trustee, Frawley has attended eight NYS Conferences of Mayors and Municipalities and is able to network with other villages across the state. As mayor, Frawley pledges to restore the “voice of the people” of Angola and listen to the concerns of the residents. “Working together with the town is a key component in promoting tourism and commerce in our area,” said Frawley. “Revitalizing the buildings on Main Street and completing the streetscape that has been initiated is the beginning of the work we need to do to continue the comeback that will make Angola great again.”

For Trustee

Mike Stockman

Mike Stockman is running for Trustee of the Village of Angola. He decided to run for office because he was eager to get involved and help continue the improvements that have begun in the Village. “Village life offers a ‘family’ quality that is good. It’s something I want for my children,” said Stockman. He is happy with the direction the Village is moving in, with the improvements that have been started and believes he has something to offer to the Village. With his background in the Parks and Recreation area, Stockman feels he can offer a different perspective on the issues that are facing the Village as it moves ahead. “Business will come where the people are happy. The Village and the Town can work together to make good things happen for our area,” remarked Stockman “I am committed to the Village and the people that make it a special place to live.” Mike Stockman works as the Director for Community Education at Lake Shore School District. He is married and lives with his wife and children Mitchell, 7, and Madison, 4 in the Village home he has owned for 8 years. Stockman is currently a member of the Village Zoning Board of Appeals.

Norbert (Norm) Drago

Norbert Drago is running for Trustee of the Village of Angola. He has been a Village resident for 14 years but fondly remembers spending time as a child visiting his grandparents in the area. “One of the reasons I chose to move to the Village of Angola is because of the fond memories I had,” said Drago. “I decided to run for Trustee because the people need a voice and the things I hear them talking about are the very things that are also important to me.” Some of the areas that are of particular interest to Drago are continued development of Main Street, Senior Citizen housing, and keeping a line on taxes. “If elected, I pledge to do my best for the Village and the people I will represent,” said Drago, “If we all work together, we can achieve our goal in making a better village.” Norm Drago works for the Lake Shore School District as a bus driver and resides with his wife Arlene, son Greg and daughters Nichole and Lauren.

John Wilson

John Wilson is running for Trustee of the Village of Angola. Wilson has been on the Board of Trustees since October completing the term of former Trustee Denise DeJohn. Wilson has been a Village resident all his life. His father started the Town Press and in 1989, he took over the business. He also works for the Lake Shore School District in the Buildings and Grounds department. “I feel I have something to offer. Change doesn’t happen overnight. I am dedicated to the people of Angola and the Village. I want to see the Village back where it should be,” said Wilson. John has experience as Chairman of the Planning Board and has also served on the Board of Directors of Steepleview Housing and Development for approximately 5 years.  John lives with his wife Debi and their 3 children Ashley, Kristin and Zachery.

Patty Snyder-Bonnes

Patricia Snyder-Bonnes is running for Trustee of the Village of Angola. Snyder-Bonnes grew up in Evans and moved into the Village when she moved her family “back home”. She has been active in the Evans-Brant Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and has served on the Village Zoning Board of Appeals and as Chair of the Village Planning Board. Snyder-Bonnes pledges to stand by her word to put the issues to the people, to listen to what the people have to say and to use her vote to represent the majority. This information was taken from her election brochure because she chose not to be interviewed by the Town Crier.
