Work Continues on Depot Park in the Village of Angola
A Beautiful Sunny Day in the Village of Angola, finds Jim Meissner volunteering his time to paint the Caboose located on Main Street, as part of the Depot Relocation Project. The Caboose is located near Twisters Café and will soon be joined by the Nickel Plate Depot for preparation of a proposed “Depot Park” Highlights from the Brant Town Board Meeting by Alice Escott The Brant Town Board meeting was held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006. Councilman John Chiavetta was absent. The Code Enforcement Officer reported that 5 construction inspections were completed, 6 citations issued, 4 complaints were received, 1 issue is in litigation, 1 issue is under investigation by the DEC, 2 severely damaged homes were referred to the Village of Farnham, and 4 properties were checked for compliance. The Dog Control Officer’s report stated that 1 dog was taken to the SPCA by the SPCA because of its condition. At the Town Forum held Saturday, July 22, Donna Marien reported that a couple dog bites had occurred in the Town. One had not been reported to her. Police Chief David Hock reported that 3 times the amount of tickets have been issued in three months than the last 16 months previous. The Town Clerk’s report stated that the Brant Web-site has been updated. A new Supervisor’s Page has been added to the site. Supervisor Pero plans to use it to help spread information to the Town residents. The Town Clerk’s office answered approximately 20 calls for information concerning zoning, code issues, permits, assessments, 15 calls concerning the park, rentals, and recreation; 15 calls on tax information, 15 calls on licensing issues; and 40 miscellaneous calls. The Clerk’s office issued 4 fishing licenses, 2 marriage licenses and 20 dog licenses. Grant notifications have been received from Assemblyman Jack Quinn’s office and Senator Dale Volker. Brant will get $5,000 from Quinn and $20,000 from Volker. The money from Quinn’s office will be used for equipment for the Town Park. The money from Volker’s office will be used to upgrade the Senior Building. The windows and kitchen are in need of upgrades. A re-dedication of the building will be held when the check is to be presented to the Town. Supervisor Pero offered thanks to all who helped with the Brant Fest- Public participation made it a success. A report to the Board will be available soon. Pero also stated that Recreation is going well with attendance over 130. Memorial Park work should be starting soon — the Clock Tower and Memorial Stones will be available for donations. Town Park expansion of property should be finalized this month. The Town will be looking for ideas for land use at the Park. A committee will be formed for a New Town Hall. Water expansion on Surfside should be started soon. Route 5 Corridor Committee will be looking into expansion with business possibilities such as Wall Mart to increase the Town’s tax base. The Eagle Scouts are trying to complete work on the sidewalks Janet Bowman — reported research started for homeowners on Surfside for Beach rights. Discussion for LSYF — painting should be done at Park when no rentals are present Supervisor Pero asked that anyone with a problem or concern contact him to bring things out and thanked everyone present for working hard for the Town. The next Town Board meeting will be on Wednesday, September 13 due to Primary Day being the normal meeting night. An Insurance /Point Reduction Driver’s School will be held at the Brant Community Building on August 21 and 22 from 6:45 to 9:45pm. The cost of the program will be $20 for Town Residents and $30 for non-residents. Sign up is at the Town Hall. Space is limited. A Rabies clinic will be held on September 6, 2006 from 5 to 7pm at the Brant Fire Hall. Dog License renewals will also be available at that time. Jennifer Daniel Stehlar, Brant’s Mrs. New York State placed 1st Runner Up in the National Competition held in Las Vegas on July 26, 27. In other matters, the Board: • Authorized payment to Meals on Wheels in the requested amount of $1356.36. • Tabled a resolution to make MBIA an authorized investment agent until more research could be done regarding their qualifications, stability and the requirements of the Town
