Cooper Sworn In By His Brothers

Hon. Tim Cooper, Evans Town Justice; Brittany Cooper; Paul T. Cooper, Evans Town Council; Ann Cooper; Hannah Cooper; Hon. Michael Cooper, Eden Tow

A town judge from Evans and a town judge from Eden both administered the oath of office to their younger brother, in a historic first for the Town of Evans. Deputy Town Supervisor Karen Connors Erickson introduced the Honorable Tim Cooper and Honorable Michael Cooper, before they swore in Paul T. Cooper to his new seat on the Evans Town Council. “Doc Cooper would be so proud of Paul,” noted Mrs. Erickson, remembering the Cooper patriarch. Cooper had won a landside victory in November, winning every one of the town’s 17 voting districts. The installation ceremony took place on Friday, December 29 at 6 p.m. at the Evans Town Hall. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Honorable Joseph Emminger, a Councilmember for the Town of Tonawanda, who is a brother-in-law to Cooper. A moment of silence for former President Gerald Ford was observed. Cooper, 44, and his wife Ann reside with their three children in Angola. He is a lifelong resident of Evans and General Sales Manager for a progressive talk radio station, WWKB-1520 AM. “I thank God for giving me this opportunity to be in this position,” he noted to the assembled residents, friends, and family members. He noted he would be mindful of his “duty and responsibility to act in my best concience and in the best interest of the people of the Town of Evans.” Cooper ran on the Democratic, Conservative, Independent and Working Families lines, to complete the final year of the vacancy left by the withdrawal of former councilmember Joseph Govenettio. He plans to run in 2007 for a full 4-year term.
